Healing at the Interface: Molecular Mechanisms in Self-Repairing Polymer Composites

Short Description of the Research Project:

Composite materials are used in everything from airplanes to wind turbines, but once damaged, they’re often impossible to repair. This project explores how these materials could one day heal themselves. We will use molecular simulations to investigate what happens at the molecular level where different materials meet, like epoxy, thermoplastics, and carbon fibres.

The ultimate goal is to develop more sustainable composites, and help industries move toward a more circular, eco-friendly future.
