Universality and diversity of neutron-capture processes in galaxies

Short Description of the Research Project:

Where do gold, platinum, and uranium come from? Not from ordinary stars, but from the most extreme events in the Universe: colliding neutron stars and massive stellar explosions. By combining models of galaxy evolution with observations of ancient stars, this project traces how these cosmic factories have enriched galaxies with heavy elements across billions of years, and what this tells us about the composition of stars and the habitability of planets.
