Women’s Political Representation and Social Media
Short Description of the Research Project:
The representation of women in political spheres remains challenging, particularly in countries with significant male dominance. Nevertheless, in the age of social media, it has emerged as an alternative avenue for women to engage with constituents, enhance their visibility, and strengthen their political presence.
This study aims to explore the relationship between women's political representation and social media use, focusing on how these platforms can foster a sense of representation among constituents. Using the lens of the constructivist approach of representation theory, the central analysis of this study is "representation as an individual-level effect."
By using quantitative research methods, including existing survey and content analysis databases, as well as European and Southeast Asian cross-country comparative analyses, this study will contribute to the discourse on social media and women’s politics by showcasing how social media influences women’s political representation.
