Advancing exoelectrogenesis in green algae for sustainable biophotovoltaics and biocatalysis
Short Description of the Research Project:
Photosynthetic microorganisms, such as the green algae Parachlorella kessleri, exhibit “exoelectrogenesis”, the capacity to export electrons or reducing equivalents upon illumination, a phenomenon that presents significant potential for solar energy conversion and for sustainable biocatalytic applications. This project aims at setting-up a continuous-flow algal system for coupling long-term sustained exoelectrogenesis with biocatalysis, in order to address the current limitations in efficiency and sustainability related to green biocatalysis.
