Binary stellar evolution and the origin of the elements

Short Description of the Research Project:

The nuclear processes within stars make the material that forms the world around us, and these processes are intimately linked to the way stars evolve. When a star is born as part of a binary star system, the evolution of both stars becomes very different from that of single stars. In this project, we are computing the most complete set of nuclear yields to date that account for binary stellar evolution, thereby revealing how binary stars affect the chemical evolution of the Milky Way.
