Sequence-based determinants of genome instability in repeat expansion syndromes

Short Description of the Research Project:

My project aims to solve an apparent paradox: how can a vital DNA repair system protect us from cancer, but trigger devastating neurodegenerative conditions like Huntington’s disease? By combining advanced data science with stem cell technology, this project will study how DNA repeats mutate in human neurons, and look for potential exploitable consequences of this collateral process in Huntington's syndrome or other repeat expansion disorders.
